After Greensburg, KS was virtually wiped off the map by a huge tornado in 2007, the community decided to rebuild with long-term sustainability in mind. Many of the buildings, streets, and other features are built to the highest standards for green design. The entire electrical grid for the town of about 1000 is wind energy from a wind farm just 5 miles south of the town.
Greensburg Greentown is the non-profit organization helping in the recovery.
Greensburg Greentown, a non-profit set up to aid in the reconstruction, has their headquarters located in the Silo Eco-Home. The Eco-Home has been built to withstand a tornado and contains many green features.
